Looking Back - 2017...

Good Bye 2017
Good Bye - 2017
As the time moves on, our journey with it leaves experiences. The last day of an year is the day we tag our year-long experiences and add them to our memories. My Artful journey with year 2017 is another heartfelt journey in my life.

I never thought I would ever get a chance to meet one of the greatest Telugu Artists of all time Sri Chandra Garu. It's been such a wonderful memory in my life meeting him and spending few hours of my time along with another two great Telugu Artists of this time Anwar Garu and Moshe Dayan Garu at Hyderabad, India when I went on vacation in January 2017.

All my time I had spent this year with Art on several quiet weekend-mornings, the encouraging responses I got from my friends when I shared my Art on my Art Blog, Facebook and Instagram, the Artful places I visited, the people I met who talked about Art with me, and the Artists I met at local Art shows... all these have made an impact and left memorable impressions in my heart.

Life is a journey with time. As we walk on the time-path, we meet many people along the way. Some inspire us, some get inspired from us, some travel with us only for a short period of time, and some continue to travel with us year-after-year for a long time. Each person we meet along this path creates an unique impression. While we travel on this time-path, when we get certain things done for which we otherwise don't find time to do, due to higher day-to-day-life priorities, we can consider ourselves fully lived in that time.

I have had many years passed in my life with no Art Tag put on any. I am happy, the year 2017 is not one such. Me and my-Art is my-Heart. When my heart walks back on this time-path, it meets again in memories, all those who made an Artful impact on my life along with my Art. As I tag my experiences on this last day of the year and add them to memories, I mark 2017 as one of my successful years that I lived up to my own expectations.

" I'm not in this world to live up to your expectations and
you're are not in this world to live up to mine. "  - Bruce Lee

Good Bye to 2017 and Welcome to 2018 !!
Happy Painting !!!

Happy Birthday Bhuvan...

Portrait of my son - Bhuvan
Watercolors on Paper
This portrait of Bhuvan took my confidence level with Portraits to new heights. Never felt this happy in recent years with any of my Art works.

Born on the same day as my favorite Telugu Artist Sri. Bapu, he always makes me feel happy. He inherited my Art skill that I had inherited from my Dad. Hope he develops a passion for this skill and continues the legacy in the 3rd generation of our family!

A Dream come true...

Nātyānjali - My Tribute to Indian Classical Dance
Oil on Canvas,
22" x 28" (56 cm x 71 cm)
Oil Painting had been the longest dream of my life. It had begun in my high school with the good collection of Art books and magazines that we had access to in our School Library. Also, there were quite a few wonderful Oil Paintings seen on the walls of classrooms and dormitories in the school campus done by our then Art Teacher Sri. M. Venkateswar Rao. Once an year, we would get bookshop on the truck into our school campus and we would get class wide turns to step inside, explore and buy books of our interest. Much of the books were of Soviet Union, Moscow publications/prints with top-notch paper and some were with full of amazing Oil Paintings.

My dream of Oil Painting continued through my Engineering college-years in Vijayawada, India, wherein the college library had a good collection of foreign Art Books and Magazines exclusively on Oil Painting. I was probably one of very few Engineering Students to flip all pages of every single Art book found in that library. I even bought a Soviet publication book of Russian Artists Oil Paintings, the one and only one book I could find in a book shop which was as expensive as our Singapore edition of Computer Programming books priced in Dollars but sold in converted Indian currency. My search for Oil Painting books & magazines even went on and on along the foot-paths(side-walks) in front of Alankar Theatre in Vijayawada on Sunday evening book sales. I could hardly find any though. My search for Oil Painting Books continued in Sunday book market on the side walks in Koti, Hyderabad after I graduated and started working. There I found several small 20 page Art Magazines on Oil Painting and bought several of those.

Salarjung Museum, Hyderabad probably was the very first place where I had seen any framed original Oil Paintings the very first time in my life. I visited this museum few times when I was working in Hyderabad exclusively for Painting & Sculpture Galleries.

I still remember the day I went straight from the Railway station to and spent few hours of my time at Raja Ravi Varma Art Gallery in Mysore, India when I reached Mysore about 8 hours before the scheduled pickup time for my very first job interview for Air Force, India. That is still one of my sweetest memories to recover on any given day.

My first overseas visit on my professional job to London, UK, left me with few full-weekends of unforgettable memories filled with just me staring in front of wonderful original Oil Paintings by renowned Artists fount at Tate Gallery, National Gallery and British Museum in London. The countless hours that I spent at the The Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago downtown are still fresh in my heart where I used to go every Tuesday evening after office-hours to spend my time sketching & studying by sitting on the floor in front of selected paintings and sculptures. My quest for Oil Painting continued in Chicago and pushed me into an Oil Painting course at a Community College which helped me more on learning how to study Paintings of Masters rather than Oil Painting itself. I attempted few oil paintings during this course but none of them I claim that I finished.

My dream of Oil Painting continued to haunt me from time-to-time and finally in 2015 I made it come true with this very first painting that I claim as my very first-ever finished Oil Painting forever. As my dream took such a long time to come true, framing it took quite sometime and finally I think I found a perfect frame for it. It now appears in our family traditional Dining room and makes me feel proud every single day.

"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." - Walt Disney

Put your Heart into work and get it done which should make you feel proud of yourself when you look back!
Happy Painting!!

Run with Passion...

Runner - Ink and Watercolors on Paper
In everyday's life we run with time and most of the times we run out of time. When we follow our passion and run with it, we'll never run out of time.

Thanksgiving is that time of the year we get few days off from our daily routine running life. It is also that time of the year we become little lazy and feel like doing nothing but eating. ;) But our inner passion never stops from running. If we can find sometime, get up, and run with our passion, our holidays get truly fulfilled.

"Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there." - Will Rogers

Happy Thanksgiving!

Conquer your-self...

Indian Classical Dance - Hands Mudra
It is not easy to get the love towards anything going for a long-time especially when it is not part of your day-to-day life. Unless you dedicate your "self" from time to time, it is very hard. You need to conquer your "self" first to be dedicated. Once you conquer your "self", you can get going to reach your goal!

Use the talents...

Indian Classical Dance - Hands Mudra
The most striking feature of Indian Classic Dance is the use of Mudras, meaning gestures shown by the head, hands, and legs. These gestures are mixed with dance in order to express the meaning and expressions of the background music and song lyrics.

Anybody can learn fine-arts. But one who possesses natural talent stands out. This natural talent can easily be found in Indian Classical Dance. Possessing talent is only one thing. Practicing and using the talent is more important than possessing it. Talent not used is no better than not having a talent!

It's been one of my dreams to paint several such selected Mudras in my Paintings. Though I tried one few years ago, I never finished it. I am quite happy to start this series with this very first one in this series.

Continue to exist...

Indian Classical Dance - Kathak
Watercolors on Paper
Attempts are never wasted. The more you attempt the better you get at it. Continue to do and put your efforts in what you are passionate about. I don't have time for it - is only a lie to yourself. If you love something, either you have time for it, or you will find time for it. Make attempts to live now and continue to exist after.

Travel back in time with memories...

Statue at NewPort Mansions
Watercolors on Paper
When I visited Newport Mansions, Rhode Island this summer, a bare-breasted woman statue found in Rose Garden of Rosecliff Mansion caught my attention. This painting is based on a picture I took. The mansions are filled with stunning Sculptures, beautiful Paintings and wonderful Art works. Rich people who got those mansions built truly had a sense for Art and they lived their full life in those mansions with nothing but Art and beautiful Nature around them.

This statue of a woman is located in Rose Garden outside Rosecliff Mansion. I am not sure how many people passing by on the way to the beautiful ocean-front back yard stop by at this statue to admire the beautiful sculpture work. It was really stunning!

I am glad I seized the moment of my admiration of this beautiful statue in my own painting now.

Seek the light inside you...

Woman in Dark - Watercolors on Paper
Unless you seek, you won't find the light inside you. Let the darkness around you help in finding the best of you. The best of you only comes out in darkness. Even starts can't shine without darkness. Walk with your passion and let it glow you like a start in the darkness.

Attempt to advance...

Portrait of a beautiful woman - Watercolors on Paper
In order to advance in anything, you should continue doing it. Each attempt advances you towards the goal you set to yourself. So, set a goal and make sincere and unlimited attempts to advance more and more towards the goal.

Make Sincere attempts...

Windy - Watercolors on Paper
In order to succeed, one has to make a sincere attempt first. The more you attempt, the more you succeed than you fail. A failure is also an attempt towards success. You measure your own success, do not let others measure. Enjoy the result of each sincere attempt, failure or success, it doesn't matter actually.

Live for the love of it...

Live for the Love of your passion - Watercolors on Paper

Each day comes, much of it pre-filled with day-to-day routine stuff. We get very occupied and at the end, only feel tired. Living is not racing with time, it is living the way you want, doing things you want to do, and enjoying what you do.

Everything doesn't happen the way you like to. But you can certainly make certain things happen the way you like. If you find those things, you should continue to spend both time and effort for those. Once you do, you will not regret when you look back.

I am glad to keep alive my passion, my best-friend in my life, which will not go away from me. When I am with it, I am fully living my life, my life with it and in it!

Live for the love of your passion, and simply love it!
Happy Painting!

Treasures of You...

Treasure of You - Watercolors on Paper
Life is a treasure of feelings. It's also full of surprises with unpredictable blind turns. The only predictable thing you carry with you all-the-way-along is just you. You and your-soul are your own predictable treasures of your life.

True happiness lies no-where but within you. Find out what makes you cheering and find time for doing it. Cheer to yourself, and keep doing it joyfully and tirelessly. You'll collect "Treasures of Joy" along the way of each such run.

Dancing Colors...

Bharatha Natyam - Indian Classical Dance
Dance can be colorful on the stage of performing Arts. Colors can dance in the process of an Artist's Painting on the surface. Now, Painting has grown bigger than a hobby and has become part of my life. I feel incomplete if I don't paint anything on a weekend when I am home.

After finishing Ganesh Clay Sculpture well before than expected on this Saturday, I have had whole Sunday to myself. Setting an hour aside for myself to do this Painting on my busy Sunday added a bit of relaxation. The journey of my Painting goes on...

Keep the tradition going...

Lord Ganesh with Goddess Saraswati re-presented
- Handmade with Clay
Keeping the tradition of Making Lord Ganesha going on for 8th year in a row, I made this Ganesha for this year's upcoming Vinayaka Chavithi. This year, it's Goddess Saraswati, the Goddess of Music re-presented in this handmade Clay Sculpture. Lord Ganesha is seen playing the musical instrument Veena that typically Goddess Saraswati is seen with representing Creative Arts. His Mooshika (Mouse) vaahanam (vehicle) is seen joining him playing Tabla, a pair of drums.

This is made with fine Natural Clay and all by hands from my own imagination. Started first in the year 2010, I keep this tradition going at home.

The result of Consistency is nothing but Trust. Be consistent in anything that you believe in and build your own trust, not for others, but for your-self.

Spread Wings and Fly...

Nátyánjali-14 - My Tribute to Indian Classical Dance
Watercolors on Paper

After attending two Arangetrams (on-stage debut performances) of Bharathanatyam and Kuchipudi, two weekends in a row, I didn't have to think of a subject for my next Painting. I took tons of pictures for my own reference at both the events. This particular one is based on my own picture I took in New Jersey at the Arangetram of Twin Daughters, Deepa and Roopa of my good friend SuryaPrakash Irakam from my High School, Kodigenahalli, AP, India. It was a feast to eyes watching the twins performing on the stage for 3 hours perfectly in sync.

My series on Indian Classical Dance goes on with this 14th one in this series as my Tribute to this wonderful form of Art.

I did it bit differently than my previous Watercolor Paintings, tried in vibrant colors. In order to fly, one needs to spread wings. Spread your wings of skill, fly through the clouds of creativity and reach destinations of your dream!

Keep Painting, Keep the Inner-Joy flowing!

I gifted this framed Painting to my friend, Parakash when he stopped by to visit me. He was so happy to have it. I liked the care he showed when he was placing it in his Car, he was worried that it could get damaged while driving. I am happy, my painting found a new home, the home of one of my childhood best friends, a gift to his twin daughters who are so talented and are inspiration for this painting, also are there in this painting...

A Roomful of Inspiration and Peace...

A Roomful of Inspiration and Peace
It's been a dream for me to see all my Paintings put together at one place like in an Art Gallery. Not any more, the dream has been made true by my sister Indira Meka(Indu) who recently visited us on a two-week vacation. She took an initiative, designed & created My Signature Place and made a wonderful Signature Gift of her own for me.

She is one special person to have in my life who has been so caring of me and my Arts, since my childhood. It took two days for both of us to turn my cluttered-office-room at my home into a roomful-of-inspiration. Now when I walk into the room, I walk into a New source of Inspiration & Peace.

It also has two very special best-creative-corners, Peace Corner and Pedababu's Corner (as Indu named and was referring it) which is nothing but My Dad's Corner. The Peace Corner has a beautiful and peaceful Yoga Girl- an elegant Art Piece which is a gift for me from Indu. My Dad's Corner has two of my Dad's three original Indian Ink Art Works along with his Portrait that I did.

Now I have my own Art around me inspiring me all-the-time. When I step inside, I no longer step into a room, but I step into my own world-of-inspiration, my own world-of-creation, my own world-of-memories, my own world-of-feelings, my own world-of-art.and my own word-of-heart.

I know Thank you is only a small word for such a thoughtful creation from me.
A heart felt "Thank You Indu" from my (he)Art.

Inspired form this, I create my own quotation and dedicate it to Indu.

Use your ability...

Nātyānjali-13 - Indian Classical Dance - GIFTED

My Nātyānjali goes on with this Watercolor Painting which is 13th in this series. Though it is not as big as previous ones on this subject, I am quite happy with the result. Reshape yourself...

Lord Ganesha - Ink-pen and Watercolors
GIFTED
Like each day gives an opportunity to reshape our-self, each attempt gives an opportunity to reshape our skill. Nothing goes waste and everything teaches something in life.

This is another attempt of Lord Ganesha in watercolors before I move onto Oils making a series of my own on this as a subject.

Soul to hand & Hand to soul...

Lord Ganesha - Watercolors on Paper
Art is a finest form of skill that comes from soul to hand.

The Hindu God- Lord Ganesha is a common subject among Indian Artists. Though I started an Oil Painting of Lord Ganesh, I never finished it. This is a very first sketch & painting of Lord Ganesha. Hoping to do few Oil Paintings of Lord Ganesha in future.

Let the time find you...

Girl and Jewelry - Watercolors on Paper

How do you find time? is a very common question I face from all who see my Art works.

I am not a professional Artist. I am only passionate...still hesitate a lot to use the word Artist as I am only a hobbyist. I am no different than (m)any. I do have full-time professional work and double-full-time family work. Still, every weekend I try my best to spend sometime with my Arts. Like all, I also don't find time for it. But I can say, I just tuned my life for it so that I don't need to find time for it, Time finds me instead.

Life can only become busy, year after year. It never slows down anyway. That is how we built life. If we don't let the Time find us, we never find Time either. All you have to do is: Let the time find you!

In this modern age, the phrase, I don't have time means, It's not my priority. Simply Make 30 hours out of 24 hours and then you will definitely have time for yourself ;)

This is a simple watercolor painting, outlined gently with ink & pen and colored with brush.
Happy Painting!

Don't get lost...

Indian Classical Dance - A classic Mudra (Gesture)
This is a quick watercolor painting done with just one color: black, not the actual black but a substitute for black called Neutral Tint that many Watercolor Artists use. When I don't know what painting to start, but wanted to do something, my first choice always is: Indian Classical Dance.

A weekend day comes and goes faster than a weekday. Weekend gives an opportunity to spend time with ones own soul. Be with it for sometime by doing something you have passion for. Simply, don't get lost in hectic life!

My Dad from my (He)Art...

My Dad from my (He)Art
Watercolors on Paper

The only question God can never answer for me: Why did you take my Dad from us that early?

You could only take my Dad from my life but not from my Heart. Just those couple of years that you had let me observe my Dad closely in my childhood are enough for me to follow him and carry with me, some of his very fine-skills that the world couldn't see. As long as I live, he lives with me in my Heart and in my Art.

Remembering my Dad, who is the first person I admire most in my life, ever and forever!
Happy Father's Day!

Happy Mother's Day...

Self with Mom - Watercolors on Paper
ఎంత మహా ఘనుడైనా
అమ్మ ఒడీ పసివాడే...

Being away from my Mom almost all through my life, what else can be a better way for me to celebrate Mother's day than doing a portrait of "Self with Mom". This is based on a picture taken with my family when I was 1 year old. I just took out my-self and my Mom from it into this painting.

If at all there is anything I owe to anybody in this life, it's to my Mom & my Baamma. They are the two people who sacrificed everything that they could, without both of them I wouldn't be what I am today. Mom's Love is the only love that's pure!

"All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother." - Abraham Lincoln

Happy Mother's Day! Happy Painting!!

Seize the moment...

The Duo with Arrows - My Tribute to Excellence
Based on a still from the
Telugu movie Bahubali-2 The Conclusion

To live life to full potential, one has to Seize, most, if not all moments that the life offers. The moments could be of pride, joy, achievement, any such which when recalled would only enhance it by making us feel better.

I seize one such moment that I experienced on the Silver Screen last weekend in the form of a Telugu Movie: Bahubali-2 The Conclusion in my Painting as my tribute to the excellence by the Team of this Movie. This is a movie very well narrated in all aspects on the Silver Screen. My favorite scene in this movie of all is an amazingly executed fight with Arrows. It's not just the fight, but the way it was done to establish the characters of the Hero and the Heroine. Excellent performance by Prabhas and Anushka. It was just Brilliant. Kudos to Director Rajamouli Garu, all Actors and the whole unit!

This Painting started as a quick ink sketch but ended up as a Painting by itself on basic watercolor paper only of size 9" x 12". But to fully seize it into my Art, a bigger Painting on a professional quality paper is due from me for this "Perfect Duo with Three Arrows" ;)

Get inspiration from anything around you & just give your best in life and seize as many moments as you can!
Happy painting!

Happiness is a state of mind...

Radha Krishna - A sketch with Ink and watercolors

With an intention to come back to Oil Painting, I chose "Dancing Krishna" as a theme for a series of Paintings. I did a painting of Lord Krishna about two years ago which was my second Oil Painting. It's just a coincidence that Krishna was dancing in that Painting too, but he was dancing alone.

This is a quick sketch of exploration and experimentation on Paper with the composition. Sketching is a way to experiment with the composition for a Painting.

I am happy with the outcome and now it will go onto the canvas to become my third Oil Painting.

I always sign on right-bottom-side of the Painting. This is probably the only Painting I signed on the "Left-side" instead. Yes, it left the right side!

"Happiness is a state of mind and has
nothing to do with the external world."
- Lord Krishna

Keep Painting and Keep your soul Happy ;)

No words to express my joy...

A sketch with Ink Pen and Watercolors
After a good weekend of an Art exhibition, and having so much of Art energy flowing inside my heart, what should I do when I come home and nobody is there to share my joy? I pick up my brush and just Paint.

In joy, do more Painting...that's the way to celebrate with Art.
Keep Painting and keep the inner energy flowing, don't let it dry or die!

Unless you fall in Love...

Watercolors on Paper
Hobby is not something that you can do just for the sake of doing it. You need to really fall in Love before you develop a passion for it. Once developed as a hobby, it doesn't go away, only stays with you forever. Anything that stays with you forever is the only one that you truly are in Love with. Hobby is one such thing in life.

Keep doing, keep creating and keep inspiring yourself!
Happy Painting ;)

The Joy of doing...

Cute Baby Boy - Watercolors on Paper

The Joy of doing anything that you love lies in just doing it. You do not know how you can do it until you make a sincere attempt.

"The soul's joy lies in doing." - Percy Bysshe Shelley

Just keep doing and keep going. Be your own viewer, reviewer, critic, mentor, complementary, competitor and judge. After all nobody can judge you better than yourself!

Happy Painting!

LESSON LEARNED
As I was asked to do so, I mailed it to their Parents. Sad thing they didn't even acknowledge they've received by dropping a word to me. In addition to my efforts and time, it also costed me some money, whatever small amount that could be :( I would have been better off keeping it to myself.
