Double Portrait...

"Double Portrait"
Portrait of a Newly Wedded Couple
Watercolors on Paper (10" x 16")

Like many Artists by nature, I like to be accurate with anything that I do. Painting portraits push me  closer towards achieving that. A failure doesn't matter for success, but every detail matters in a successful Portrait.

This portrait is first of it's kind I have ever attempted. It's not a single portrait, it's a combination of two portraits in one. Theory of probability applies here. With two portraits happening in the same painting, the probability of making it more accurate multiples by lowering down chances of success.

When one of my School seniors sent me text from India asking if I could do a portrait of his Son who was getting married, I didn't have to think before saying "Yes, Anna, I will.". To keep my word, I did this for him to present to the newly married couple. I wish the new couple, "A Very Happy Married Life"!

"The probability of failure doesn't matter to me." ~ Vinod Khosla

Happy Painting!
Happy successes and failures!!

Yet another reason to Smile...

"Yet another reason to Smile"
Portrait of Chi. Bhuvan
Watercolors on Paper (8.5" x 11")

Yet another reason to Smile in my life- my dear Bhuvan!

Since that first day of his very first Smile when Bhuvan came into my life, I have had a bigger reason to Smile. Today, it's been 18 years of that magic Smile!

A Smile on a face always reflects on another face. A Smile with oneself reflects on one's own Soul. A Smile with your loved-one reflects on your life!

With a Smile on my face from my Soul, I wish my dear "బంగారు బాబు"
A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY with MANY MANY SMILES of the day!

"A child's smile is worth more than all the money in the world." ~ Lionel Messi

Indian Woman Hair Style...

Indian Woman - Hair Style

Looking at some of my Paintings, one of my Artist-friends made a comment- "Giri, you always show Indian woman looking so happy & beautiful in your Paintings". One of the new themes that I thought I would do a series of Paintings this year was - Indian Woman.

I love painting Portraits and especially the hair. It's bit hard doing hair in watercolor paintings. This is my second painting of this kind. My first one can be seen here.

I also did sketch as part of doing a value study for this Painting. Here is the sketch.

Happy painting and Keep practicing!

My Dad - My Hero...

My Dad - My Hero
It was my dream in my childhood to draw pictures like my Dad and to have a printed handwriting like his. I grew up observing couple of his drawings neatly framed, hanging on the walls of our new house that he designed and built as his dream house in our village. Also, I used to observe his handwriting so closely at times when I was learning how to write with hands. At that age, unknowingly, the dreams I used to have- "I wanted to be like my Dad", are still my dreams of today.

As his Son, he definitely would have had dreams of seeing me in many things that he never got an opportunity to be in his short-life. I was not even of that age to know about what his dreams were, what he wanted me to be and what he wanted to see in me as a grown up. All I know by hearing from other people was- He was a great person with many modern-human-thoughts about the society, a great Teacher helping poor students, a great Artist who didn't have enough life to fulfill his dreams. My Mom still says that he used to say, "A Dad should be like a Teacher to his kids when they are young and a Friend to them when they are grown ups".

The time I spent with my Dad in my dreams is even longer than the time I really spent with him in my life. I was very unfortunate to miss him from my life in my childhood. I only have a couple of years of my early-childhood-memories with him to cherish rest my life. I missed him being my Teacher and Friend in my life.

He was my "First Guru" who planted the "Seed of Art" in me. I feel, growing that seed of Art he planted in my heart with his Arts, is the way of respecting him. I never had any proud moment with him in my life seeing any of my successes in his eyes.

If at all there is another life, I wish my Dad will be my Dad in that life and be my Teacher and Friend for his full-life.

With all great respects, I remember "My Dad" - My Hero, in this Painting from my heart through the  passion he planted in me and the skill he passed on to me, on this "Father's Day".

Happy Father's Day!

Nātyānjali-10: A Tribute to Indian Classical Dance...

Nātyānjali - A Tribute to Indian Classical Dance
Twelve was the magic number I decided and wanted to do twelve Paintings when I started this series of Indian Classical Dance. Continuing the series on this subject, I am getting close to that number. Painting after Painting, I only tried to challenge myself.

Enjoyed so much of doing it!

Nātyānjali-7: Indian Classical Dance...

Nātyānjali - Portrait of Kamal Haasan from the
Telugu movie Sagara Sangamam
The series of my paintings on the subject of "Indian classical Dance" will only be incomplete without at least one painting based on the movie Sagara Sangamam - one of greatest Indian movies of all time on the same subject.

This is the movie that inspires me on any given day. The Classical Dancer role played by Kamal Haasan - the most versatile and multi-talented actor of Indian Cinema, is heart-touchingly designed and directed by director Sri K.Viswanath.

As the movie inspires me every single time I watch it, I am happy, now this painting doubles that inspiration every time when I look at it.

In the climax of this movie, as it is rightly ends by saying- THERE IS NO END TO ART!

Keep Getting Inspired and Keep Painting!

Hindu Temple...

Hindu Temple
Gifted
Hindu Temples are rich in Art. With amazing architecture, sculpture and paintings, every temple shows and stands as an evidence, generation after generation, of how skillful previous generations were.

Art, in some form or other is part of everybody's life; probably it was more into life in previous generations.

I always get lost into the amazing sculpture whenever I go to any Temple in India.

This painting is based on a picture I came across in Our Andhra Facebook page.

Happy Painting! ;)

Inspiration comes from anywhere...

Bahubali - Avanthika
Inspiration comes from anywhere and lies everywhere. I wasn't even thinking of starting a new Painting when I woke up last Sunday. But the moment I saw the picture of Tamannah posted on Facebook by Bahubali's team, the movie that our great Telugu Film Director Rajamouli Garu is directing. It instantly inspired me, pulled me into Painting and made my Sunday.

Like many, I have been waiting for this movie which is going to be a visually stunning and a real feast to artistic eyes. I wish Good luck to Bahubali team!

Inspired by a great movie that hundreds of Artists are working together, I am happy to end this year with this painting. As with every Painting, I enjoyed doing this one.

Happy New Year & Happy Painting!

Bruce Lee - The Legend of Martial Arts...

Bruce Lee - The Legend of Martial Arts
Portraits of Legendary Personalities - yet another subject for my paintings that I always have been dreaming to start. Though I did few drawings of some prominent personalities in the past, I haven't done any big paintings. I am glad that, "Bruce Lee - A True Legend of Martial Arts" happened to be the first in this series.

A video shared by one of my friends recently on Facebook inspired me to start Bruce Lee's portrait and also this series of Legendary Personalities. It was just a coincidence that I started this painting yesterday, Nov 27 which also happened to be Bruce Lee's birthday.

Bruce Lee, probably is the single most person known to many humans on the earth than anybody in the human history. It's always refreshing recollecting my school-days with Bruce Lee on some of my class notebooks.

Happy holidays & Happy Painting ;)

Portrait of my Son - Bhuvan...భువనగిరి

Portrait of Bhuvan
Portraits are my favorite painting subjects. This portrait of my Son, Bhuvan is based on a picture that he took in his recent visit to India with a baby goat that was born on that day. I enjoyed doing his portrait as much as he enjoyed holding the baby goat on his shoulder ;)

I think this is one of my best. Those who have seen Bhuvan can find the accurate details of his features and feelings in this painting.

Enjoy the joy of Painting ;)
