Art has become part of my life now. It used to be a part of me once, and went away for many years. It came back and I can proudly say, I will have it with me till my last breath. With all due respects, on this day of Thanksgiving, I thank everyone in my life who inspire me, who make me laugh, who make me cry, who make me learn, who love me, who hate me, who appreciate me, and even who criticize me...

This is based on my own line sketch that I did in 1994. I never thought I would do it again after 24 years in Oil. As I was going through my collection of my college-days-art-memories, this one ignited my inspiration.

My journey with Oil Painting recently took a scenic route and I have been enjoying the ride and the lovely experience. This time, getting little away from my style- realism, I wanted to attempt in abstract style. From start to finish it took about 3-to-4 hours. This is only my 6th finished Oil Painting, 4th this year, and the fastest so far. Also, I painted most of it with knife, did little brush work on the background.

My dream media, I love Oil Painting. Life is a learning. So, learn with passion. Learn from what you do. What you learn becomes your asset.

You must dream and put sincere efforts in making your dreams (be)come true. In fact, dreams are the best way to dissolve yourself in the process of evolving. They help renew yourself and your creativity. Also, when you dream, dream high and gauge your creations constantly to improve your talent. Having talent and not putting it into action & constant practice is equivalent to not having it all. You can always think "I can do anything". But, only by doing it, you will come to know if you "can" really do it or not.

I always say, Oil Painting has been my dream media since my childhood. As I work more and more with it, my dreams not only become true but also get bigger and go higher, setting my-own new targets and expectations up for myself. At the end of every attempt, I go through a natural process of my own evaluation. This process helps me finding mistakes. Those mistakes are nothing but opportunities of improvements that I missed and can apply in my next attempts.

When I started a sketch for this painting, I felt I had a good beginning. A good beginning can always be expected to have a good ending. My four-day journey spanning three-week-end-days with several hours of total involvement each day, along the path from the beginning to the ending of this painting, was a joyful meditation. The ending is even more joyful. This gave me fully satisfied result and makes an unique addition to my creations of Art. I would certainly say, this is one of my best so far. But the best of the best is yet to come out, one day...

There is a hidden secret in this painting. A full-blown Lord Ganesha in Acrylic is hidden underneath this Painting. I actually started my first Acrylic painting of Lord Ganesha on this canvas. But I was very unhappy with the media and the first-layer outcome. Despite buying the best Professional quality paints and complete brush-set spending big bucks, trying all kinds of techniques and making couple of extra trips to Art Stores to buy add-on liquids to extend it's drying time, it was drying as fast as watercolors. I was totally disappointed and upset with Acrylics. I decided not to waste my time anymore, Acrylics is not my type of media. Then I applied Gesso over it and started this painting in Oil. That's the beauty of Canvas, it can be reused ;)

This Painting is just born today. After 6 to 9 months, I will give it a special varnish coat to preserve and extend it's life and frame it. I am hoping, being born as an Oil Painting, this painting will have longer life wherever it finds it's permanent residence, could be my home or some one else's. The life of a painting is longer than the Artist's. A portion of my he(art) and soul continues to live forever in this painting!

Sketch - First Step

This is just the beginning of another beautiful journey I am hoping to have with Oil Painting, my dream media. Looking forward for a wonderful experience.

It is not exaggerated when I say, "I can recollect the place, time of the day, and almost about everything around each of my Art works when I look at them including the oldest of my work that I could save which I did when I was 10 years old". I guess, every Artist could say that. Otherwise, that the Artist was not deeply involved in it.

Like ending matters, beginning also matters and is important in anything we do in life. A good beginning almost always leads onto a good path, resulting into a good ending. I am happy with the good beginning of this painting. It's only an under-painting, still a long way to go. Looking forward to finishing it in coming weeks. With that, I wish myself a "Good Luck" and am hoping to exceed my own expectations and limitations!

After I finished this Pinting, I tried my best to take a good picture but was not happy with what I took in the past. This morning, I was about to step out to go to work and a strip of sunlight coming through the window falling and running from top-left to bottom-right corner glorifying just about the central characters: Peacock feather, Flute, Radha and Krishna caught my eye.

There you go...the best of all captured in this Picture with the Sun being the distinguished visitor and viewer today 😉

Now I wonder when does the Moon arrive as a visitor to view this Painting 🤔

Don't just make it, make it Great!

Dancing with Krishna - Oil on Canvas

Though I started this painting an year ago, I spent many hours during past few weeks to take it this far and took a pause, signed and dated. This is the first Painting that when it was still wet in paint, went on display in public, a day after I signed, and before I even posted it on my blog & social networks. Last week, it was displayed at an India classical dance event Shringara Triveni in Littleton, MA, USA which was based on the theme- Love for Krishna. This painting was so appropriate at that event which also had an Art exhibition going on by Kalakruti and students of an Art school. I had put a price-tag of "make your own offer". When people showed interest to buy, it was hard pricing my sincere efforts on this Painting. The enthusiasm this painting created at the show among viewers for Art and Dance was itself priceless for me. Few people asked for the price and many people stopped by staring at it for minutes and talking with me to know many details. One common question that I get these days at shows like this is - Do you teach Painting?. My answer so far has always been: No, I am still a learner. Who knows, what is there awaiting for me in future ;)

Indian Classical Dance has been one of few themes I chose and did a series of Paintings already. My second finished Oil Painting of Dancing Krishna (alone in the universe), created a new theme, Krishna for me for a series. This Painting fits in both the themes: Indian Classical Dance and Krishna. It was only a co-incidence that Krishna continues to dance in this series, but this time, the Love for Krishna joined and seen dancing along with his inseparable Flute and Peacock Feather. It has 4 dancers in it. Also, every painting has an unseen person in it, the Artist him-self/her-self.

Though I signed and dated it already, in coming weeks I will be giving it minor finishing touches before it goes on into a frame and finds a place to live. This is yet another Painting that makes me feel great and inspires me every single time I take a look at it. Of course, it did not happen just like that. It has many many hours of sincere efforts and dedication went into it.

Once it was only a dream, and now becoming a reality. Oil Painting was my dream media, and I was dreaming about it for many many years. Zeal was never a constraint, but time and resources were. I won my first battle with time, and it helped me follow my dream.

With each finished Painting, I feel more comfortable with it. And, it comes closer to my dreaming (he)art. This is my third finished Oil Painting. Finished in painting means- stopped & signed. There is nothing like finished in Painting. My previous two oil paintings took several weekends, I finished it in just two weekends. My dreams were so long and I still have a long way to follow...

Dancing Krishna - Oil On Canvas (Framed)

Few years ago, a professional quality Oil Painting was just an impossibility for me. Now, this framed Oil Painting of Dancing Krishna makes me feel proud as it found it's new home, my own brother, Sridhar's home in Nellore, India.

When my brother expressed interest to have one of my Oil Paintings at his home, the only finished Painting I had was this and I promised I would give it to him. I am so happy that I made efforts and took this along with me on my recent trip to India. This is in fact, my second finished Oil Painting. The first one recently secured it's place on a wall at my own home in Sharon, MA, US.

Indian Classical dance has been the subject that I did more Paintings on than any other. Lord Krishna, also known by my name Giridhar has been my childhood hero in many stories told by my Grandma (Baamma) who was also a devotee of Lord Krishna. When I got my first job and started earning, I asked my Baamma what was one thing that she would like to get from me. All she asked for was an Idol of Lord Krishna. I didn't fulfill her wish. The sweetest person in my life, my Baamma who was the very first person in my life to notice me drawing a crow with a chalk on the floor at the age of 2 years, and used to recollect with me that first drawing of mine whenever she saw me drawing in my teenage, is physically no more with us. She is living in our Hearts with us.

This Painting is now living in the Living Room at my brother's home in Nellore. Also, there are many souls of the past, the present and the future living in it.

But, I dedicate this Painting of Lord Krishna to you, done by your Govardhan Giri, with all the love and respects from the bottom of my heart & tears in my eyes for all you did for us, and your life you dedicated to us for giving us a better future. The future became present and now you are not there with us in it. We now live in it, with many comforts that are nothing but direct results of your life dedicated to us and sacrifices you made  for us.

Also, dramatically captured my image reflection in the mirror,
taking a picture with my phone.

I got it framed in Nellore, India, my native place. A very talented boy who was framing pictures in just a matter of minutes by sitting on the floor with hardly any tools, did a fantastic job by making a museum-quality-frame for this Painting. It costed a fraction of money that I usually spend in US for a similar quality of material and Craftsmanship. India has no shortage of talent in any field in any given era of times.

A Dream come true...

Oil Painting had been the longest dream of my life. It had begun in my high school with the good collection of Art books and magazines that we had access to in our School Library. Also, there were quite a few wonderful Oil Paintings seen on the walls of classrooms and dormitories in the school campus done by our then Art Teacher Sri. M. Venkateswar Rao. Once an year, we would get bookshop on the truck into our school campus and we would get class wide turns to step inside, explore and buy books of our interest. Much of the books were of Soviet Union, Moscow publications/prints with top-notch paper and some were with full of amazing Oil Paintings.

My dream of Oil Painting continued through my Engineering college-years in Vijayawada, India, wherein the college library had a good collection of foreign Art Books and Magazines exclusively on Oil Painting. I was probably one of very few Engineering Students to flip all pages of every single Art book found in that library. I even bought a Soviet publication book of Russian Artists Oil Paintings, the one and only one book I could find in a book shop which was as expensive as our Singapore edition of Computer Programming books priced in Dollars but sold in converted Indian currency. My search for Oil Painting books & magazines even went on and on along the foot-paths(side-walks) in front of Alankar Theatre in Vijayawada on Sunday evening book sales. I could hardly find any though. My search for Oil Painting Books continued in Sunday book market on the side walks in Koti, Hyderabad after I graduated and started working. There I found several small 20 page Art Magazines on Oil Painting and bought several of those.

Salarjung Museum, Hyderabad probably was the very first place where I had seen any framed original Oil Paintings the very first time in my life. I visited this museum few times when I was working in Hyderabad exclusively for Painting & Sculpture Galleries.

I still remember the day I went straight from the Railway station to and spent few hours of my time at Raja Ravi Varma Art Gallery in Mysore, India when I reached Mysore about 8 hours before the scheduled pickup time for my very first job interview for Air Force, India. That is still one of my sweetest memories to recover on any given day.

My first overseas visit on my professional job to London, UK, left me with few full-weekends of unforgettable memories filled with just me staring in front of wonderful original Oil Paintings by renowned Artists fount at Tate Gallery, National Gallery and British Museum in London. The countless hours that I spent at the The Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago downtown are still fresh in my heart where I used to go every Tuesday evening after office-hours to spend my time sketching & studying by sitting on the floor in front of selected paintings and sculptures. My quest for Oil Painting continued in Chicago and pushed me into an Oil Painting course at a Community College which helped me more on learning how to study Paintings of Masters rather than Oil Painting itself. I attempted few oil paintings during this course but none of them I claim that I finished.

My dream of Oil Painting continued to haunt me from time-to-time and finally in 2015 I made it come true with this very first painting that I claim as my very first-ever finished Oil Painting forever. As my dream took such a long time to come true, framing it took quite sometime and finally I think I found a perfect frame for it. It now appears in our family traditional Dining room and makes me feel proud every single day.

Lord Krishna...

From my wish-list, I chose Lord Krishna as the subject for my second Oil Painting. Working through the Painting for few weeks, I enjoyed blue colors, all over. Not only just how to paint, I am also learning the Art of Patience through this wonderful painting media. This is also the biggest in size of all the paintings I did so far. Unlike Watercolor Painting, at least for me, Oil Painting takes much longer time to finish.

I am glad that I could finish, sign and date this one.

My first Complete-attempt in Oil - Nātyānjali-10: A Tribute to Indian Classical Dance...

Nātyānjali-10: Indian Classical Dance...

Oil Painting has been my dream and is the richest of all painting media. Though I made few attempts in the past, I never came this close to call any of my attempts a complete-attempt.

After gaining some experience with watercolor media lately, I felt like resuming my attempts with Oil Painting. Having done a series of watercolor paintings on few subjects, deciding on what to attempt for my first Oil Painting was a no-brainer for me and I chose my favorite subject - "Nātyānjali - My tribute to Indian Classical Dance". However, I wanted to do a Painting that can only be attempted in Oil and should also be a challenging.

A Painting in dark colors is something that I have in my wish-list for years. This is obviously something that I couldn't do in watercolors. I did one in the past with just "Indian Ink" though. This idea of 'a painting in dark colors' from my wish-list popped up again and put me into a challenging beginning of my journey with Oil Painting. I took it serious this time and worked on it solely for few weeks, awaiting patiently week-after-week for it to dry up little bit after each phase during the lengthy process of Oil Painting.

I am very happy with my first challenging-attempt of this Oil Painting that I can call - a complete-attempt. Now, I can proudly say, the journey of my soul has just begun on Canvas. Also, my impression of 'Oil Painting is easy' has began to fade and I began to believe that each media poses it's own challenges to the Artist.

In many aspects, it is a complete(d)-attempt and I am quite happy with my efforts and the result.
