Raj Kapoor and Nargis...

Raj Kapoor and Nargis - Watercolors on Paper

Dedicated to Javed Akthar Ji for his wonderful lyrics from the movie Silsila.

Artist Sri. Chandra Garu autographing the book ఒక చంద్ర వంక for me:
'గిరి' కి చంద్రుడు
One of the best moments in my life was meeting Legendary Telugu Artist Sri. Chandra Garu on Jan 23, 2017 at his residence in Ashok Nagar, Hyderabad, India. We spent few hours talking to him and listening to his journey with Arts, Artists, Movies, Books, People and many things of his life. I never imagined that I could meet him in my life. It was only made possible by Artist Anwar Garu whose Art I admire and is also a good friend of mine.

It was one of the happiest days for me meeting Sri. Chandra Garu along with two more great Artists of our age Anwar Garu and Moshe Dayan Garu. I was fortunate enough to share my experiences with Sri. Chandra's illustrations from my college days that got printed in the book released on his 70th birthday titled ఒక చంద్ర వంక (Oka Chandra Vanka).

Artists are generally humble by nature. I saw that quality even more in these three Artists I met.  It was all my pleasure meeting them and having Sri.Chandra's autograph in the book that I am going to keep for my life and pass it on to my next generations.

We always wish we could meet and be with people we like in life. Not everyone is fortunate to get that wish come true. I always wanted to meet Telugu Artists I used to admire since my childhood. I made serious attempts when I was in India long back but hardly met anybody. At last I could meet one of my favorite Artists Sri.Chandra Garu.

తెలుగు గర్వించదగ్గ  ఈ తెలుగు బొమ్మల "చంద్రుడు" పది కాలాల పాటు చల్లగా ఉండాలని ఆ భగవంతుని కోరుకుంటూ...
Thanks to Artist Anwar Garu.
Thank God for giving me that opportunity.
Now, I have this added to the moments I cherish for rest of my life.

Tribute to one of the great souls of India...

Portrait of Jayalalitha
My tribute to one of the great souls of India.

When touching just one heart in life isn't possible for many souls, people who touch millions of hearts and sadden their day when they leave the world are truly great souls.

Art is Autobiographical...

The Telugu Legendary Actor N.T. Rama Rao as Krishna
from the Telugu Movie: "Dana Veera Soora Karna"
We miss many things in life. Some- we don't miss at certain time, but later wish to go back in time to experience it again. Those are the ones that we feel like we missed forever. Some- we don't get a change to do at that time in life, but always love to do. These are the ones that get added to our wish-list. The wish-list keeps growing with us.

Childhood memories are sweetest of all. One of my childhood memories that I recollect very often was my joyful experience of watching the movie- Dana Veera Soora Karna with my Dad & my Brother. Also, the movie posters designed by Artist Gangadhar are still fresh in my memories. I used to simply stare at those posters by observing the finest Art work went into the poster designs. Thus it got added to my wish-list in my childhood. I am happy to do this portrait of Legendary Telugu actor Sri. N.T. Rama Rao from the movie Dana Veera Soora Karna. Just by doing it, I took my-self back into my own childhood ;)

All Artists take their interests that are near to their heart into their Art. Over a period of time, the works of an Artist become his/her own autobiography.

"All art is autobiographical; the pearl is the oyster's autobiography." - Federico Dellini, Film director and Writer (2- Jan 1920-1993)

Happy Painting! Enjoy Art!!

My Dad - My Hero...

My Dad - My Hero
It was my dream in my childhood to draw pictures like my Dad and to have a printed handwriting like his. I grew up observing couple of his drawings neatly framed, hanging on the walls of our new house that he designed and built as his dream house in our village. Also, I used to observe his handwriting so closely at times when I was learning how to write with hands. At that age, unknowingly, the dreams I used to have- "I wanted to be like my Dad", are still my dreams of today.

As his Son, he definitely would have had dreams of seeing me in many things that he never got an opportunity to be in his short-life. I was not even of that age to know about what his dreams were, what he wanted me to be and what he wanted to see in me as a grown up. All I know by hearing from other people was- He was a great person with many modern-human-thoughts about the society, a great Teacher helping poor students, a great Artist who didn't have enough life to fulfill his dreams. My Mom still says that he used to say, "A Dad should be like a Teacher to his kids when they are young and a Friend to them when they are grown ups".

The time I spent with my Dad in my dreams is even longer than the time I really spent with him in my life. I was very unfortunate to miss him from my life in my childhood. I only have a couple of years of my early-childhood-memories with him to cherish rest my life. I missed him being my Teacher and Friend in my life.

He was my "First Guru" who planted the "Seed of Art" in me. I feel, growing that seed of Art he planted in my heart with his Arts, is the way of respecting him. I never had any proud moment with him in my life seeing any of my successes in his eyes.

If at all there is another life, I wish my Dad will be my Dad in that life and be my Teacher and Friend for his full-life.

With all great respects, I remember "My Dad" - My Hero, in this Painting from my heart through the  passion he planted in me and the skill he passed on to me, on this "Father's Day".

Happy Father's Day!

Nātyānjali-7: Indian Classical Dance...

Nātyānjali - Portrait of Kamal Haasan from the
Telugu movie Sagara Sangamam
The series of my paintings on the subject of "Indian classical Dance" will only be incomplete without at least one painting based on the movie Sagara Sangamam - one of greatest Indian movies of all time on the same subject.

This is the movie that inspires me on any given day. The Classical Dancer role played by Kamal Haasan - the most versatile and multi-talented actor of Indian Cinema, is heart-touchingly designed and directed by director Sri K.Viswanath.

As the movie inspires me every single time I watch it, I am happy, now this painting doubles that inspiration every time when I look at it.

In the climax of this movie, as it is rightly ends by saying- THERE IS NO END TO ART!

Keep Getting Inspired and Keep Painting!

Happy Republic Day - INDIA...

Obama - Modi
Happy Republic Day INDIA!

As India celebrates it's 66th Republic Day today, the entire world turns and looks at India. The US President Mr. Barack Obama is attending this celebrations as the Chief Guest with the First Lady Michelle Obama and making it even a historic celebrations.

When I came to US, to my surprise, few even asked me where exactly India was on the earth. Since then India emerged as one of the strong countries on the earth. I am hoping the country reaches new heights under the leadership of Mr. Narendra Modi.

All the best to India and Happy Republic Day to all Indians!

I am glad I took time to record this historic day in my Art.

Happy painting ;)

Bruce Lee - The Legend of Martial Arts...

Bruce Lee - The Legend of Martial Arts
Portraits of Legendary Personalities - yet another subject for my paintings that I always have been dreaming to start. Though I did few drawings of some prominent personalities in the past, I haven't done any big paintings. I am glad that, "Bruce Lee - A True Legend of Martial Arts" happened to be the first in this series.

A video shared by one of my friends recently on Facebook inspired me to start Bruce Lee's portrait and also this series of Legendary Personalities. It was just a coincidence that I started this painting yesterday, Nov 27 which also happened to be Bruce Lee's birthday.

Bruce Lee, probably is the single most person known to many humans on the earth than anybody in the human history. It's always refreshing recollecting my school-days with Bruce Lee on some of my class notebooks.

Happy holidays & Happy Painting ;)
