Ink on cheap Notebook Paper (11" x 14")

My friend goes with me wherever I go...

Piccadilly Circus - LONDON, Sep 25, 1994
Sketch pens on Paper (6" x 8")

Aug 15 1994, London, my first step outside India.

I boarded my first plane in my life from Bombay to Londan, on a 3 month project trip for TCS, Bombay.

London has a special corner in my Art and in my Heart. Some of the world's finest Art galleries I visited, Art books, cards and Art material I bought in London are very special to me. Though I had no time left for my Art during those 10 to 12 weekends of my stay in London, I did few sketches including the one of Dianna, Princess of Whales which I gifted to my project-mate Deepti who joined me from TCS, Calcutta to work with me on the same project. Unfortunately, I did not take a picture of it.

This is a sketch done when I was in London based on my own photograph that I took at Piccadilly Circus, London. An Artist is connected with every small Art work of his/her own. I am no exception.

Art is my friend, goes with me wherever I go and wherever I stay...

Ahead...

Ahead...
Watercolors on Paper (8.5" x 11")

It's better to find yourself where you want to be in the future than getting lost in the past. Looking ahead is always brighter than looking back. Make your future bright. Work for it today, everyday, and you will meet yourself a day in there.

Day-4 of Painting Challenge on Facebook . . .

Day-4 of Painting Challenge on Facebook
This is one of my early explorations of #watercolor #painting during my college days at #VRSEC#Vijayawada. This is based on a painting by Thomas Moran, an American Artist, published in SPAN magazine I bought on the footpaths at Alankar theatre, #Vijayawada. I didn't know any techniques, didn't even know the basics of #colortheory. All I had was a limited set of poster colors and a strong desire to learn from #masters printed art works.

Day-2 of painting challenge on Facebook
This is also one of the early milestones of my journey with #watercolors that boosted my confidence. I was so happy with this outcome and was so proud of it for many days at my home in #Kavali where I did this one.
This is based on a photograph from a Calendar of beautiful pictures that I got from my uncle Sudhakar Jaladanki. The original picture was a lake in beautiful #Kashmir in #India.

Nātyānjali-9: A Tribute to Indian Classical Dance...

Nātyānjali- A tribute to Indian Classical Dance
Gifted

Continuing my series on the subject of "Indian Classical Dance", I tried this painting a bit different than any other previously done on this subject. With a mixture of both cool and warm colors, I tried to get some dramatic effect of light coming through the skies onto everything visible in this painting.

Light is what makes our eyes see objects. It is also the light that makes a Painting look interesting and beautiful. Painting after painting, I am still trying to learn the Art of seeing light and the skill of bringing it out from the paper, which otherwise is spread all over hiding the actual Painting in it.

This painting is based on a commercial of Indian Handloom in which the versatile dancer Shobhana danced to the wonderful tunes. This video, so beautifully done, is the source of inspiration for my painting. Here is the link to the actual video.

Happy colorful and de-lightful Painting!

Hindu Temple...

Hindu Temple
Gifted
Hindu Temples are rich in Art. With amazing architecture, sculpture and paintings, every temple shows and stands as an evidence, generation after generation, of how skillful previous generations were.

Art, in some form or other is part of everybody's life; probably it was more into life in previous generations.

I always get lost into the amazing sculpture whenever I go to any Temple in India.

This painting is based on a picture I came across in Our Andhra Facebook page.

Happy Painting! ;)

The Journey through a Colorful Day in Life...

Fall Foliage
Living in New England area, we experience colorful fall around this time of the year. If we drive up, North of Boston to New Hampshire, Vermont or even Maine, all the places look even more colorful with dramatic changing of colors.

Though we have been planning to go North to see fall colors for many years, it's only this year we could make it. I am glad we could do it!

Drive to White Mountains

Drive to White Mountains
Drive to White Mountains

It was such a beautiful sunny Sunday after a couple of rainy days. The temperatures warmed up little bit into 60s. We started to drive early in the morning and reached White mountains area by 10am. The  fresh morning sunlight enriched colors and the nature looked more crisp than ever to me. It was such a colorful pleasure driving through not-that-busy roads on a calm Sunday morning with beautiful and colorful sceneries all around.

Cathedral Ledge

We stopped at the North Conway Information Center to get some information about interesting places around. It was a beautiful town. We drove to the Cathedral Ledge and walked through the beautiful woods up to the mount cliff. The views of valleys from there were just beautiful.

Diana's Bath

Diana's Bath

We also went to Diana's Bath and it was such a calm and beautiful waterfalls through rocks. There I could see the best Artist in the world at work- the Nature, painting fall colors in water through the reflection of light.

It was an easy walk in the woods, on the rocks at the water falls and it was a very cool spot, not to be missed.

Road to the Sky

As it says "Road to the Sky"- was a scary drive up to the Mount Washington Summit.

At the bottom of the Mount Washington, the wide area surrounded by mountains was full of fall colors. It was such a beautiful treat to anybody's eyes!

White Mountains

White Mountains

There were two options to go up to the summit: guided tour, and drive-your-own-car. We didn't hesitate to go for drive-your-own-car, up to the summit. We just went for it. That was the most deadliest and scariest drive I ever had experienced. The Road to the Summit was just a two-car, two-way road with barely any space left on both sides with cars going in both the directions, up and down the mountain. The mountain side of the road had a car-tire-wide naturally formed ditches and rocks. The other side mostly had just deep slopes.

Lower half of the way up, driving was ok except the feeling of driving at the heights, as mostly the slopes were covered with trees. The higher half of the drive was the most scary drive with just deep slopes inches away from the road. There was a gravel road for about a mile and it was the deadliest of all. Driving down the mountain was as scary as driving up the mountain.

Mount Washington Summit

Though very scary and deadly, it was a thrilling experience at the end. If I ever have to drive up to the summit again, I will simply opt out ;)

I brought home with me, many memories and many pictures taken all over the places; hoping to turn some into beautiful paintings.

Typically, a day with 7 hours of driving ends very tiring. But, this colorful day was certainly untiring, memorable and beautiful.

Life is a blank canvas. One should try to paint as many colorful days as possible on it.

Happy colorful days of life ;)

TajMahal - Watercolors om Paper

Wah Taj....!
The moment of saying this, standing in front of Taj Mahal has never come in my life. I hope a day will definitely come to go and see this amazing monument of Love. It's been one of my to-do dream paintings and sculptures.

This is just an attempt of learning watercolors. Though I started this painting almost an year ago, it's only in the last few days, I could touch it again and call it completed.

I will definitely attempt it again in a big way in coming years.

Gone with the City - My (he)art...

I still have my Heart left in New York City, even after a week of returning home. I only captured pictures as references for my Art, but preserved many moments for memories in my Heart. Though I have been many times to this city, it's only this time I saw the real side and much beauty of it.

Visiting The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Museum of Modern Art  was an unforgettable experience. I lost myself many times in front of the original paintings of many great artists; Jackson Pollock, Monet's Lillis, Van GoghRembrandt, Picasso, John Constable, Sargent...just to name a few.

Watching this great City from the Hudson River was the most memorable experience. The lights and illumination at the Times Square (The Crossroads of the World) with dark skies was the most colorful experience of life. I truly fell in love with the dynamism, beauty and colors of this city.

I chose Times Square as my first subject for the series of my Paintings on this City. It is my first watercolor painting of New York City. With all the vibrant colors done in a subtle way, left to viewers imagination are some details of this ever changing colorful place.

I learned and practiced few techniques along the path of my experiment with vibrant colors in this painting. Following are some techniques that I tried:

  • No prior sketching
  • Free flow of colors
  • Natural flow of water on the paper
  • Not many details
  • Mixture of one color with it's adjacent colors to add some Drama
  • No black and brown colors used at all

A touch of Color...

Certain sketches need to be touched with colors. Though lines and shadings alone can make a sketch, colors always elevate it further. Especially, the ones that have light into it which makes shadows and shaded areas. I started this sketch with the mindset of adding colors and hence there isn't much shading work done with ink. I tried to show the light with the help of colors.

Sketching is fun, Color sketching is even more fun :)

Sketching - the study of a Subject...

Sketching is the best and quick way of studying a subject before starting to paint. It helps understand the subject, it's intricacies, it's details, it's features, it's mood, surrounding sources of light and what not. Typically, many Artists do several sketches before they start to paint.

Sketching is an experimental phase in Painting which helps to visualize the outcome of a subject, which otherwise remains in an abstract shape in the Artist's mind.

Media: Pen (Uni-ball Deluxe Micro Pen), Ink and Watercolors on paper (8" x 6")

Occasion(al) sketches...

Occasionally, I do sketches of historical places. Historical places always strike the inspiration in Artist. Long back, I did Statue of Liberty and St. Louis Gateway Arch. I also tried Big Ben, Thames River and Piccadilly Circus in London. Taj Mahal is still in my To-Do list. Though I always wanted to do Eiffel Tower in Paris, the most romantic city in the world, it's just a coincidence that I happened to do it finally today, on this occasion of Valentine's Day.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

My sketchbook page today…

Here is what made into my sketchbook page today. A girl, a business man and a water front multi-storey complex with a motor boat in the water.

As always, a rapid and focused sketching like this makes my day. It gives me energy and refreshes my soul.

Media: Pen (Pilot PRECISE V5 Rolling Ball - extra fine) and Ink on Paper (6" x 8")
